Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Fall River/Dollars for Scholars was founded in 1958 by Dr. Irving Fradkin with a one dollar donation that Dr. Fradkin received from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.  Some 59 years later, what began as the 1st Chapter established in Fall River, MA, has grown to over 500 chapters nationwide, that have provided 2.3 million students with more than $3.7 billion in scholarships.  Our donors, both small and large, continue to provide us with funding to assist high school seniors with the opportunity to continue their education.  Each year, we conduct two (2) shake-the-can fundraisers in Fall River.  Volunteers made up of board members and student volunteers are stationed at various city intersections.  On this page, you will see several photos of the 2017 fundraising events.

I would like to thank BankFive, BayCoast Bank, the E. Silva, Jr. Charitable Fund, M.J. McNally Real Estate, and Seth Hockert-Lotz's Domino's Pizza for their donations to this annual event.  Last, but not least, I want to thank the many individuals who drop their coins and dollars in the student cans.  After Dr. Fradkin started the organization with a $1.00 donation, we continue to raise funds $1.00 at a time.
